How to use the Personal Loan EMI calculator

Enter the gross loan amount, quoted annual interest rate, repayment months and upfront fees. Compare the cash you receive with the repayment obligation before deciding how much to borrow. After calculating, select Monthly or Annual above the repayment table. Monthly shows each payment period; Annual groups the same payments by repayment year.

02 · THE CALCULATION

Formula and calculation method

EMI uses the gross principal. Upfront fees are deducted only in the net-proceeds illustration; they do not lower the balance used for interest. Fees are paid separately or withheld at disbursement, rather than added to the loan.

EMI = P × i ÷ [1 − (1 + i)^(−n)]; i = annual rate ÷ 1200

See the numbers in context

A ₹5,00,000 loan at 12% for 60 months has an estimated EMI of ₹11,122. With ₹5,000 in upfront fees, net proceeds are ₹4,95,000. Interest totals about ₹1,67,333 and payments including fees total ₹6,72,333.

What your result means

Monthly EMI is the repayment commitment. Net proceeds show the funds available after fees; total outflow shows the repayment plus entered charges. This is a cost illustration, not an APR calculation.

Scenarios worth comparing

  • Change one assumption at a time to understand its effect on payments and total cost.
  • Compare a shorter term with the cash-flow flexibility of a longer term.
  • Use the complete rate and fee quote rather than an advertised starting rate.
05 · KNOW THE LIMITS

Assumptions and limitations

  • Rates are constant nominal annual rates, with monthly reducing-balance interest and month-end EMI payments. At zero interest, EMI equals repayment principal divided by months.
  • The schedule uses exact values internally and rounds displayed rupee amounts. Lender rounding, payment dates and daily accrual may differ.
  • Only the entered upfront fees are included. Tax benefits, rate resets, missed payments, future fees and insurance are excluded.
  • Charges and permission to transfer or prepay depend on your contract and applicable rules. The tool does not determine lender eligibility or fee legality.
  • The first EMI is assumed in the month after the selected effective month, following any education-loan moratorium. End month includes the full repayment term; a prepayment can bring it forward. Calendar choices do not change the modeled EMI or interest.

06 · COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Are advertised interest rates used?

No. The defaults are illustrative. Enter the actual rate and charges in your lender’s offer.

Does the fee change my EMI?

No. The model treats it as an upfront cost. If your lender finances the fee, add it to the loan amount instead and avoid counting it again as an upfront fee.

Is this the effective annual cost?

No. The tool reports EMI, nominal-rate interest and fees. It does not calculate APR or model irregular cash-flow dates.
